ROCKFORD, Ill. — For the first time in the history of its girls’ basketball program, Boylan Catholic High School will host a varsity tournament. The Reindeer Games, Dec. 27 and Dec. 29, 2018, will be the only high school basketball tournament held in Rockford over the Christmas holiday season.
In addition to Boylan, seven high school teams from across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin will participate:
- Aquin Catholic (Freeport)
- Beloit Memorial
- Belvidere North
- Grayslake North
- Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock)
“Boylan has a long tradition of exemplary sports programs and we are excited to open our doors to the community as we bring a girls’ basketball competition to our home court,” said Boylan Athletic Director Paul Heitkamp. “Our hope is that the participating players, coaches, families, and friends feel welcomed and walk away from this tournament feeling energized and wanting to come back again next year.”
The event is open to the public and community members age 10 and older are invited to join the fun by participating in free-throw and three-point contests. Kids and adults will be able to sign-up in advance, or day-of, to compete and win a variety of prizes. The first round of each contest will be held on Dec. 27, with the final competitions being held during halftime of the Reindeer Games championship game on Dec. 29. The contests are sponsored by the Reindeer Games lead media sponsor, 1440 WROK, and by the Wildcats Basketball program.
Tickets to attend the Reindeer Games will be available for purchase at the door. They are $5 per session of play for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Each tournament day includes two sessions. A full tournament pass, which includes entry to all four tournament sessions, is $15 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.
