On Thursday, November 5, we shared notifications from the Rockford Diocese regarding the plan to go to remote learning after Christmas Break (click here) as well as the status of the upcoming basketball season (click here). We will be discussing quarter three plans over the next few weeks and deliver them to you once they are finalized.
Please continue to be mindful of your behaviors away from school. Boylan and the Rockford community needs your cooperation in practicing safe behaviors while away from campus.
We would like to remind families that if your son or daughter is not feeling well, it is imperative that he or she stays home. In the past, a student may have attended school with a minor illness, but that can no longer be the case. Due to the numerous symptoms of COVID and the increase in positive cases, it is important to err on the side of caution and stay home if you are ill. If you have questions, please contact our attendance office at 815-877-2513.
We have faced countless challenges during this pandemic, and trying to find a schedule that pleases our entire Boylan community while keeping our students, faculty, and staff safe are one of the largest. That said, we plan to continue with our alternating cohorts throughout quarter two. Click here for the updated calendar.
We have celebrated many successes while students learn during their alternating cohorts, and we are confident that our students will continue to thrive. Our teachers will continue their professional development tomorrow at school and throughout the semester. The teachers and staff at Boylan are committed to their students and will remain dedicated to the mission of our school.
Recently the region has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, and the data within the Rockford region reflects the data observed at Boylan over the last two weeks. Even though the number of positive cases at Boylan has grown, our current hybrid model and ongoing communication with the Winnebago County Health Department has allowed us to keep our building open so that students can safely learn.
We cannot stress enough the importance of practicing safe behaviors while off-campus. To date, the COVID positive cases that have been identified at Boylan have all occurred while individuals have been away from school. All of us must continue to follow the guidance of the local, state, and national health agencies so that our region can regain a healthy and safe status, which will eventually allow all of our students to return to our building.
Additional announcements can be found below.
The only way we will be able to return to in-person learning in a sustainable way is by reducing the spread of COVID-19. This means following the current COVID-19 recommendations for Winnebago County, including:
- Wearing a mask in public, at gatherings, workplaces, or where it is difficult to maintain physical distance
- Maintaining a physical distance of six feet or more between people not residing in a single household.
- Minimizing time spent with anyone outside your immediate household
- Washing hands frequently
- Avoiding gatherings of 10 or more people or any gathering for which you cannot maintain physical distance
- Limiting travel
- Staying home if you are sick and seeking appropriate medical care
Please be mindful of the travel guidelines issued by the Winnebago County Health Department, which is requiring a 14-day self-quarantine after visiting or hosting guests from several states and countries. Check the WCHD website regularly, as the list of locations changes weekly.
School photos were taken the week of October 26th by Inter-State Studios. Orders can be placed at inter-state.com. Use order code is 50425DF. Another photo day will be scheduled in December for absent students and those who would like a retake.
Do you know a student interested in attending Boylan? Encourage them to tour our campus and find out what it means to BE BOYLAN during an upcoming Future Titan Tour every Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13-November 18. For more information, please visit boylan.org/enrollment/visit-boylan. To register, please call 815-877-0531.
Each fall, we recognize the accomplishments of the students from the previous year. Even though last spring was challenging, our students were still excelling. At the start of the second quarter, we celebrated our students’ efforts through public announcements at the beginning of the day and by displaying awards on our TV monitors at both entrances. We are very proud of our Titans and of their ability to achieve at a high level during this pandemic. Please take some time to view the slideshow (click here) so you can see the various awards and achievements of our students.
Parking Passes are available for purchase. The cost is $60 for the school year. Please make your purchase online at payit.nelnet.net/form/w3pGNBLC or bring cash or check (payable to Boylan). Vehicle information that is needed includes make, model, year, color, and license plate number. All student drivers are required to obtain a 2020-2021 Parking Pass. Passes can be picked up in room 109.
Parents are encouraged to enroll as an observer in Canvas, our online learning management system. Observers in Canvas will have access to view the online assignments and resources of their student's classes. While observers will have the ability to view grades for some work, please remember that the grades that appear in Canvas will not fully represent a student's overall grade, as students may be assessed on work completed outside of Canvas. Parents should continue to refer to Skyward for official grades. Directions for setting up your observer account on Canvas can be found on the Documents and Forms section of our website.

Due to delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the printing and distribution of our 2020 yearbooks have been delayed. Rather than distributing with packet pick-up, we expect yearbooks to be available around the holidays. Exact timing TBD.
Please note that our ability to hold all events and activities remain dependent on guidelines provided by local and state governing bodies. The COVID-19 pandemic is a fluid situation and our plans may change. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.
