Boylan Catholic High School and Marian Central Catholic High School came together on August 23rd to make history with their inaugural preseason football scrimmage, a new tradition ushered in by recent changes from the IHSA. As sister schools within the Rockford Diocese, this event was more than just a game; it was a celebration of faith, community, and shared values.
Held on a beautiful evening, the scrimmage attracted a vibrant turnout of fans and students from both schools, eager to be part of this significant moment. The presence of Fr. Chuck Warren, a 2010 Boylan Catholic graduate and current Spiritual Director at Marian, alongside his good friend Fr. Bobby Blood, a 2011 Boylan graduate and Boylan’s Assistant Principal/Spiritual Director, added a deep spiritual dimension to the occasion. Their camaraderie and anticipation throughout the week highlighted the strong bonds that unite our communities.
While the game concluded without a score, it served as an important opportunity for both teams to display their talents and prepare for the season ahead. Yet, the true highlight of the evening transcended the field. After the final whistle, players from both teams gathered at midfield to join in prayer, demonstrating their unity as one family under God.
"We are profoundly grateful for the leadership of Fr. Warren and Fr. Blood, who led our teams in prayer and exemplified the spirit of Christian brotherhood," remarked Amy Ott, President of Boylan. "Their guidance is a powerful reminder of the values of faith, sportsmanship, and unity that both Boylan Catholic and Marian Central Catholic strive to uphold."
As both teams move forward into their regular seasons, we offer our prayers and best wishes for their success. May this season be filled with not only athletic excellence but also continued moments of fellowship and spiritual growth.
Good luck to both teams as they begin their regular seasons!
